States Application (20 Questions!) Empty
PostSubject: States Application (20 Questions!)   States Application (20 Questions!) EmptyThu Mar 03, 2011 6:44 am

ALRIGHTY. Greetings! So you've managed to make it through all my yakking and made it this far, huh? Congrats! Now onto the more difficult part. The actual TEST.

I made this test so that I, and others, can really UNDERSTAND your character. We want to KNOW if you can handle your own character, how much YOU KNOW about your own state, and how much YOU are going to show us your skills.

PLEASE refer to the rules before posting, so you know what to NOT do. The rules can be seen here.

Once you've read up on the rules, you're ready to begin! Please go into full detail, as much as your heart desires. The more the better. If your character has an accent, even if it's small, be sure to include it! Take this application as if YOU were YOUR character trying to answer it. It often helps to imagine verbal responses and the character acting them out, if that helps you any. If you yourself wish to say something during the application, write it in Parenthesis (Example: ( ), (( )), [ ], { }, and so on. This helps us know that it's you talking to us (Like telling us information your character wouldn't say, like a full on depth analysis on their personality, etc) and separates from the character.

Oh, and a few more things I shall go over...To submit an application, simply copy the questions below, go back into the 'The Application' section and post a new topic. Title it appropriately to your state. 'Wyoming reportin' in!' is an example. It doesn't matter how you title it, as long as you include your state's name in the application entry title. Paste the questions into your reply box. After you're finished answering all of your questions, be sure to include an 'A/N' (Author's note) at the end, telling all about YOU rather than your character. Express your feelings, how you got into the Hetalia fandom, what you think about your characters and others, just ANYTHING you want to say, go for it!

Your application will have to be approved by THREE moderators in order to get in! If even ONE mod does not like a certain detail about your application, you will be forced to stall in your entry into the community and fix your error. You only have THREE chances to fix your mistake and get in. Three strikes and you're out. You don't have to be only ONE state for this forum too. If you're interested in playing multiple characters, you're more than welcome to, HOWEVER, you MUST create a new account for EACH state you intend on playing and RETAKE the application for each new character. If you wanna play more characters, you gotta put in the effort and WANT to play more characters.

Please look at other applications to get a good feel for what to do and how to act, as well. It'll help you, trust me! You'll probably need it.

Also.

If YOU'RE one of these people who half-ass it, are too lazy to even read what I wrote above, haven't developed your character enough, like to copy and paste from articles instead of writing your character's history in your OWN words and ALL OF THAT SHIT...Then LEAVE RIGHT NOW. Get out. This is not the place for you and we don't want you.

But if you're not~...

ALRIGHT! NOW THAT YOU'RE DONE READING ALL THAT...You may proceed onto the application itself!

*UPDATE: 03/08/2011: I'll still leave the link for the questions to view below, since that may be easier for some of you to do that method. You guys can either follow two set-up methods for writing up your application. You can either...
  1. Just copy and paste the questions all at once or one at a time and paste them into your Message body when you submit your own topic on 'The Application' section. If you go this method, leave the questions white and put your ANSWERS in the color your character likes best.
  2. Simply follow the NEXT POST I submitted that already gives you the code to completely highlight, copy, paste, and simply 'point and fill' your answers. It's easier and looks nicer. You really only have to change the color code and fill your answers.
You can do either method, but I'd prefer method two, which you can read on more about in my next post below this one.

---> The Application (20 Questions) <--- (You can view this to get some ideas or just copy and paste to use for the #1 method earlier.)

States Application (20 Questions!) Empty
PostSubject: Re: States Application (20 Questions!)   States Application (20 Questions!) EmptyTue Mar 08, 2011 7:46 pm

Actually, I've decided to update this section. While waiting for new members and people to join, I've had the chance to see how others display their applications. Like, for instance, Oregon's. Which can be seen here. I REALLY liked how they organized their application. So I've decided to write up basic code so that you guys may set it up in similar fashion. That, and with this basic code, you can directly upload it by copying and pasting it from the link I shall provide you into your message body when sending in your application. So this way it makes it 10x easier rather than slowly working through it all like you had to do before.

I will walk you through the steps for those of you who are confused or not able to understand website coding and all that jazz as easily. It's actually rather simple.

1. First off, here's the link to the coding. http://www.scribd.com/doc/50316017/Coding-for-Application-for-USDRF

2. Alright. Highlight the text, all of it, and copy.

3. Go back onto the subject page for 'The Application' and start a new topic.

4. Write the title for your topic. Be sure to include your state's name. (Example: Howdy! Texas here!) Or you can also use this... (Example: Howdy Folks! (Texas)). You /have/ to include your state's name SOMEWHERE in the title, whether it's in parenthesis or included in greeting, so we'll know who's app is who's.

5. Paste what you copied earlier, that coding, and put it in the 'Message Body' of your topic.

6. Alright. First off, you need to make this application only yours. Original. All of the questions have been given a default color of 'red' to make them stand out and to show you what text needs to be colored. You need to decide which color you'll use. The color you need to use needs to be your state/territory/etc's FAVORITE color. You have a choice from Dark Red, Red, Orange, Brown, Yellow, Green, Olive, Cyan, Blue, Dark Blue (Dark blue is a little hard to read so...Maybe not.), Indigo, and Violet. You can't select black because the body background is obviously black. You can't select white because YOUR ANSWER will be in white. So you must choose one of the other colors, alright?

7. Once you know the color you want to use, you'll need to replace some of the coding. Let's say you chose Green to use, ok? Now I will show you a screenshot of where to change this coding so that it'll work.

8. Alright, once you've done that...You've pretty much set it all up nicely! This is what it should look like when you preview it, below.

9. Next, you see in that above picture where the "
Quote :
Answer
"s? That is where you guys will answer each question as your select state/territory/etc. Replace 'Answer' with your character's response. I'll give you an example below, written in the code. I'll use the first question from my Arkansas application to show you guys how it's done.

Typically whenever you paste the code it likes, for some reason, to cram it all together anyways and be a real pain. You can make it more simple to read simply by clicking the 'Switch Editor Mode' Button. Toggling this will let you view the code. If you toggle it again, you'll see how the text WOULD look if you previewed it. It helps it look nice.

Of course, if you don't want to do that easy method (Simply replace the 'Answer' with your actual answer in the preview...Yeah...) then I guess you can do the more difficult method. Toggle the 'Switch Editor Mode' button again so that the code displays. Simply place your cursor before the '[color=whatever]' code and press enter twice, giving its own space. My suggestion to you is to preview and toggle the 'Switch Editor Mode' button a lot until it looks perfect. I'm sorry this application IS so long and everything, however, with patience you'll be able to get through it. And you only have to do it once per character (Unless we ask you to fix a few mistakes or ask you to elaborate more...Etc) so you're pretty good to go!

I hope this helped you guys out a little eue

I do apologize if this seems...A bit too much or anything. I don't mean it to be, I'm just trying to simplify and explain as much as possible.
